New Year, New Day
Hey folks! I hope everyone enjoyed welcoming in the new year and that you are excited for all of the new opportunities and adventures that might come your way in 2020.
I have slain the invading flu bugs and am now back to feeling just about 100%. I was laid out a day or two longer than I had hoped for so I will not be getting to 100% of the items I had scheduled for this update. Those items will be in another update coming this Friday. This leads nicely into my first topic, which I think is the most important thing to hit today.
Updates and Accountability
It's been pretty obvious to myself and lots of you that I have been extra flakey with my updates and time estimates over the last few weeks. I feel like it was caused by several things- ineffective handling of the project’s increasing stress levels, shitty time management, overly hopeful expectations and a need to step away and focus on something else for a random day here and there.
I am aware that when I do not follow through with simple scheduling it impacts my credibility and your ability to have trust in future updates. At a time when I still have so many units to deliver, sticking to the "easy things" is extra important.
So I would like to start fresh this new year by acknowledging my weak spots and internal blockers so I can put my best foot forward for Mugsy and all of you, Mugsy's amazing supporters. Talk is cheap and I won't start with more promises. I think it would be better for my work, communications and goal completion to speak for itself over the coming days and weeks.
I appreciate your continued support and will iron out these issues quickly. The end of this looooong journey to robot coffee utopia is just around the bend and it's gonna be a hell of a party.
What I Hit Today
I only got in about 4-6 hours of actual work today as I did spend several extra hours catching up on some non-fever sleeping. I focused on the software release/house keeping. Here is what I hit:
Initial systemd service creation for managing Mugsy's application ecosystem(the right way!). It currently starts up the front end systems but not the DECAF API service. It has been added to the helpers directory in the release section of the main github repo.
Worked on Mugsy's package creation/distribution/mgmt with Yarn. Mugsy now has a public NPM module for easier distribution and installation. It is set at Version 0.1 and is not production ready as it mostly meant for me to get my head around these distribution methods. You can now enter yarn add mugsy in the terminal and it will populate your directory with the current release files(as long as yarn is installed).
I need to add dependency options and tracking, adjust directory layout and tweak some other settings. Once that is complete I will update the current NPM version and we will be pretty close to set it and forget it, single step Mugsy OS installs.
Speaking of dependencies, I added a list of the GUI's required libraries for folks who want to get it up and running before the NPM is fully fleshed out. You can find them in the readme in the release directory of the main github repo.
I uploaded a few additional inc files for Mugsy's database connections and a couple of endpoints that were missing from the include folder. Between this and the above dependancies, you should now be able to get the vast majority of Mugsy interface functioning. I need to add the Visualizer code, the recipe save endpoint for the drag and drop builder and a couple of admin pages, once those are in the GUI will be at 100%.
I hit the majority of tickets that were in pending but still have several to get to. Some of them will be hit tonight and the rest tomorrow.
Ok, that is all for tonight. Friday's update will include the shipping updates and brew demos mentioned on Tuesday. Direct shipments will pick up again on Friday and I will include details and quantities in that update as well.
